SPRING 2024

Spring 2024 - update

Wednesday, 7th February 2024

I am currently living near Cheltenham and working full time from home, with my focus remaining on making discoveries in the field of 17th, 18th & 19th century British Art. I remain engaged in all aspects of my art dealing business and when our ongoing search for a new home concludes, I will be in a position to decide whether to establish a new gallery. In the meantime, please do contact me on any art-related matter.

New Catalogue - British Art Rediscovered

Wednesday, 2nd March 2022

I have been working on plans to stage a selling exhibition of a number of significant seventeenth and eighteenth century British pictures which I have been fortunate enough to find. These consist primarily of a group of paintings and drawings by Thomas Gainsborough, but also works by Thomas Jones, Joseph Wright of Derby, Angelica Kauffman and Thomas Lawrence. They are mostly previously unknown pictures, together with two or three which, while recorded, had been lost or un-located for decades.

The live exhibition will take place from 5-10 July 2022 as part of London Art Week, and will be held at the Cromwell Place galleries in South Kensington. It will be accompanied by a substantial printed catalogue containing comprehensive research on each exhibit. The catalogue will also be available to view on this website.

London Art Week exhibitions are well publicised and I will also be sending updates to all those on my gallery mailing lists in June. This promises to be a very special event, the likes of which has rarely, if ever, been seen on this scale before.

Relocation 2021

Monday, 25th January 2021

After seven years in Ludlow, the gallery there has now closed and we have moved close to Cheltenham. I will be dealing from there for the time being and focussing more fully on my work as a private art dealer.

I continue to welcome all enquiries about existing stock and all art related matters. Please either email mileswynncato@gmail.com or ring 07766 460127. Thank you, Miles

Anniversary Exhibition and Catalogue -1991/2016

Monday, 28th November 2016

One aspect of my business has been dealing in historic Welsh art. I officially began down that route in 1991 and am marking the 25 year anniversary with a small exhibition of new stock, starting on Saturday 3 December and running until Christmas Eve. Accompanying the exhibition is a substantial 80-page catalogue divided into two parts - part 1 comprises the new stock spanning the period 1710-1940 (including paintings by Thomas Jones of Pencerrig, Evan Walters and Archie Rees Griffiths). Central to this section is a recently re-discovered collection of views of Hafod, dating from the 1830's. Hafod is one of the most celebrated country houses in Wales and the paintings are an important find.

Part 2 consists of an essay looking back over this period as a dealer and at how the market for Welsh art has grown and developed. I have chosen one picture or object for each year from 1991-2016 and illustrated it with notes on why the item is interesting/important, as well as the circumstances in which it was found.

The catalogue will be sent out free to many of my Welsh Art clients, both private and trade. Additional copies can be purchased from the gallery for £8 (plus £2 p&p if posted). Any unsold pictures from the catalogue are now being posted on this website.

The catalogue marks a major milestone in my career and I am delighted to have had the ideal opportunity to put on public record some of the many fascinating Welsh pictures which have passed through my hands over this long period. I am also very pleased with the small selection of new stock which contains some real quality and real surprises. Do please come to Ludlow to see them if you can.
